No matter how strong we might be mentally, physically or emotionally, there will always come a time in our lives where we feel completely lost, hopeless & empty !
I myself have recently gone through an extremely terrible phase in my life, where I was drained out mentally & emotionally to such an extent, that it lead to a muscle injury. Yes ! Stress can cause injuries too ! Being an extremely active person, I was advised by doctors to stop almost every activity for a period of 6 to 8 months, & was put on medications to control my anxiety attacks by keeping me asleep for long long hours !
After a while of following this routine, I understood that this has put me into a vicious cycle, where I was taking medications & ruining my body anyway, but I was also not able to keep my mind at peace, as I wasn't able to do any activity. It made me feel like a lifeless person !
This is when I decided that I have to do something to come out of it. These are some things I incorporated in my daily routine, which helped me come out of this extremely dark phase of my life.
Deep breathing exercises-
This is something you can do just before going to bed at night. Just sit on the bed, keep a dim light on, switch on some soft music of your choice. Now close your eyes, keep your back straight & take 5 counts to inhale, filling your lungs with oxygen, & exhale for the same 5 counts. Do this for about 5 minutes. You will feel your mind & body slowly syncing with each other. It helps calm your mind after a stressful day at work.
2. Writing-
Never let negative feelings stay inside you. This is like a slow poison which will one day impact your mind & body in the most impossible ways. Sometimes, we just want to be left alone & deal with our emotions all by ourselves. In such a situation, try writing down whatever you are feeling. In this way, you know you are not being judged, & at the same time you are removing out the load of emotions built inside of you.
3. Shifting the focus-
This can be done just before going to sleep. Switch off all the lights of the room & light a candle, who's flame is at the same level as your eyes. For about 5 to 10 minutes, just focus on the flame. This is a type of meditation which will help you shift your focus from the negativity of the entire day.
4. Movement-
The easiest, yet most effective way of releasing out all the stress is by having some sort of movement in your body. These can be walking, cycling, swimming, dancing, & so on.. This not only helps release the stress, but will also release happy hormones in your body.
5. Magic of nature-
This is 1 of my most favorite things to do ! Just go to a garden, park or even the terrace, sit or lie down on a mat, & look around you. Watch the birds, butterflies or the beautiful blue skies & the clouds. Nature has the power to heal us not just physically, but also mentally.
We are all in a constant race of life. Too much competition, too much stress & materialistic people all around. There are days when you may feel like there is no way out !
I hope some of these things I mentioned can help you out in some way or the other..
Always remember,
You are not alone!
Much love,
God bless !
When expressions are so deep, and you understand the pain, how my Lord can I lend a hand and get that smile again.
Happy to know that you have overcome and with your experiences making the difference in other peoples life. God bless you dear.
